This summer, I will intern at the Civil Society Liaison unit of the UN Network on Migration secretariat within the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Geneva, Switzerland. My internship is supported by a generous grant from the Women and Public Policy Program (WAPPP) at the Harvard Kennedy School.
This blog will capture my journey over the summer in building coalitions towards improving the lives of migrants and ensuring human rights for all.
About my role:
I will be engaging with global civil society and stakeholders in the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM). My role, will involve conducting focused research and mapping of private sector businesses, academia, and parliamentarians who support migrant inclusion. I will also provide vital support during network meetings. A significant part of my role will be to support the anti-discrimination work of the UN Network on Migration, including coordinating with two UN agencies (UNDP and UN Women) and two civil society organizations (AFFORD and Gender + Migration Hub). Additionally, I'll contribute to communications efforts, such as drafting global stakeholder announcements, coordinating submissions to a newsletter, and organizing logistics for consultations. The internal mapping document I will produce during my internship will guide an engagement strategy aimed at championing migrant inclusion and the GCM. Under the supervision of the Civil Society Liaison Officer, I anticipate that this opportunity will offer significant career development, fostering interactions with international actors and enhancing skills like networking, multitasking, and proactive research.
